Twenty years ago my student loan went into default.I have not made any payments on this loan in over 18 years or so.Is this still on my record, and would this affect me getting financial aid?

Unfortunately you are not eligible for financial aid until you are no longer in default. Check out this site for status on your old loans: https://www.studentclearinghouse.org/secure_area/loan_locator.asp

This information on defaulted loans from the Department of Education might also help:
http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/

Hope I could be of some assistance!

Hi,

The student loan site states that it contains participating lender information. You might check out the Department of Education site for the National Student Loan Data System: http://www.nslds.ed.gov/
